The main functions of the National Commission on Disability are:

• To serve as the national focal point on matters relating to persons living with disabilities.
• To facilitate the development of policy to improve the lives of people living with disabilities.
• To promote the rights of persons with disabilities.
• To develop and implement programmes to ensure the equalization of opportunities for persons living with disabilities.
• To advise government on all issues relating to persons living with disabilities.

Services provided by National Commission on Disability

• Provides general information on persons with disabilities and services available in Guyana.
• Operates a Resource Centre open to members of the public providing computer and internet facilities, with audio software, library and photocopying.
• Facilitates registration of all persons with a permanent disability.
• Provides information on and referrals to service providers for further assistance.
• Conducts outreach to provide sensitization workshops on contents of disability rights legislation with relevant groups.
• Provides advice and guidance on making businesses and buildings accessible.
